SKILLS

How have I used my skills?

Excel Data Analysis

I have taken multiple courses that have utilized Excel specific to merchandise planning and retail math. From these courses I learned how to use formulas, sort and filter, VLOOKUP and HLOOKUP, creating and reading charts and tables, and basic functions. Also, during my internship at Claire's Inc. I utilized Pivot Tables and other functions to analyze past sales data in France to assist in the development of a precious metals assortment for the French customer.

Microsoft Office Suite

I have advanced skills in PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook. I have consistently used these applications in school projects and work. I am also proficient in Excel and Access.

Retail Math

I have taken multiple courses designated to retail math. I am also a teaching assistant for a Merchandise Planning and Control class. I understand concepts of initial markup, cumulative markup, open-to-buy, profit and loss, inventory turn, GMROI, ending and beginning inventory, cost of goods sold, net sales, sell through percentage, markdowns, weeks of supply, model stock, etc. During my internship at Claire's Inc. I also attended monthly planning meetings which allowed me to see all of these concepts in use.

Prioritization and Organization

While in school, I have always worked and been engaged in extracurricular activities which has forced me to maintain organization in all aspects of life. I frequently utilize time management, multitasking, productivity, and schedule making in both work and school to maintain balance between multiple tasks. I have learned to prioritize tasks that must be completed first or take precedence over other tasks.

Problem Solving

Through my work experiences I have learned to use problem solving skills often. In my current position as a design team lead, I am responsible for ensuring quality in garment production. If there is an issue during the process, I figure out what the cause is and from there I generate solutions that will fix the problem in the most time effective manner.

Research

During my education, I have utilized research skills repeatedly for projects and curriculum. I also used my research skills to create the France specific precious metals assortment during my time at Claire's Inc. For this project I researched the current and future trends within women's jewelry as well as competitor assortments.
